Social Media Marketing:
Boosting Posts Isn't Enough
Effective social media marketing takes more than a post boost and page “likes” to generate quality traffic on Facebook in 2018. If your focus is on “giveaways” in the hopes that those “shares” will convert to leads, you’ll be unpleasantly surprised when you audit.
So let’s say that for your Facebook advertising you’ve invested in professional graphics, videos, photos, or a great jingle and are ready to go. The next step is to prepare a smart advertising campaign that leads to actual conversions.
Nowadays, when someone clicks on an average social media post they usually do not click through your link or follow your call to action as in recent years. That is a challenge for all marketers and requires careful planning.
People will always “click” to take something for FREE. But that doesn’t mean they’ll buy from you. There’s more to it than spending money on tickets to give away… you have more competition and people have more options.
Many business owners are starting to realize that both their organic and “boosted” posts aren’t converting like before across all social media platforms. Now, more than ever, it takes extra effort to rise above the noise.
In fact, Facebook has recently implemented major changes to the types of posts, videos and photos that appear in their News Feed. They now emphasize posts from friends and family instead of brands. This hinders social media marketing efforts.
It was part of a broad attempt by Facebook to focus on what normal people and friends are sharing, and not companies. This means users will see less overall news in their feeds as these changes continue to roll out throughout the year on Facebook and Instagram.
On Jan. 11, 2018, Mark Zuckerberg stated: “As we roll this out, you’ll see less public content like posts from businesses, brands, and media. And the public content you see more will be held to the same standard — it should encourage meaningful interactions between people… by making these changes, I expect the time people spend on Facebook and some measures of engagement will go down. But I also expect the time you do spend on Facebook will be more valuable.” This will apply to non-profits too. You can read more here.
Some of these changes have not even occurred yet. It’s a process. That’s why SonicGrifMedia stays busy keeping up with the latest social media marketing news and by attending industry webinars to learn strategies to stay ahead.
According to recent findings, Facebook advertising dominance is still the strongest and many marketers are increasing their advertising along with organic posts this year. With Instagram not too far behind.
For now, there certainly are methods available to ensure that we all play-by-the-rules of becoming more “valuable” in order to still engage with the right audience. Sure that takes extra work and research. But it’s worth it!
With this in mind, your particular business model and seasonal goals should be carefully re-evaluated to determine how to create solid advertising campaigns for continued social media success.
It’s interesting to note that live videos are still doing great at engaging users to comment and click on them. But that too, requires certain strategies in place along with relevant content and messaging.
Fortunately, paid ads are not going away. We’ve witnessed higher return on investment with finely tuned ads, tweaked and calibrated to reach the best possible demographics… with the right content, graphics, and media.
